Our Beginnings
In 1999 a group of healthcare professionals within the community saw a need to make access to healthcare affordable for the residents of the community they served. Their mission was to provide healthcare services to the uninsured and the underinsured. On January 29, 1999, the Howard County Medical Society was founded with the help of doctors Stuart Devaul, Michael Wild, and Martha Hoshaw, Along with Kimberly Ennis who served as Executive Director.
The team of healthcare professionals formed partnerships with other doctors within the community who also wanted to give back to the uninsured and the underinsured residents by providing medical services at minimal $25 co-pay or no cost to the patient. Services offered under the Howard County Medical Society included: doctor-donated care, medication assistance, diabetes navigation, and dentists delivering smiles.
On October 13, 2013. The Howard County Medical Society changed their name to Project Access of Howard County, Inc. Keeping their mission the same, the programs offered have expanded. Vision care, Hearing Aids, Dentures, Healthcare Navigation, and Medical Equipment/Supplies were all added as additional service that clients could receive. As of October 2021, additional children's programs were added. In 2022 Project Access of Howard County, Inc. went to doing business as Project Access since the expansion into other counties.

Our Goal
Our goal is for our clients to achieve optimal health outcomes. We assist them in doing this by coordinating free physician appointments and corresponding healthcare services. We educate and coach each client based on his or her individual needs and circumstances. Without Project Access, many of our clients would have gone untreated, without medication, or under-medicated, further compounding their medical issues.
